Kids Against Hunger 2016

On Saturday, April 9, 2016, approximately 90 volunteers packed a record breaking total of 30,749 meals in three hours time for the local Kids Against Hunger organization.  Two shifts (9:00-10:30 and 11:00-12:30) made up of five lines with eleven (11) volunteers each were able to accomplish this magnificent task.  The average cost per bag was $1.50, which feeds six people, making it an average cost of twenty-five cents per meal!  All meals will leave for Haiti by mid-April and arrive the first of June.  

 

The volunteers included members from Altrusa International of Temple, TX, Inc., Altrusa of the Chisholm Trail, Altrusa of Central Texas, Altrusa of Copperas Cove, TX, Inc., and the three ASTRA clubs from BHS, Salado, and UMHB.  A total of 150 volunteer hours were recorded this day!

 

Altrusa International of Temple, TX, Inc. donated $2,800 towards this project.  Along with $600 from ASTRA, $400 from Altrusa of Copperas Cove, TX, Inc., and $100 from Altrusa of Central Texas a total of $3,800 was donated to Kids Against Hunger to fund the goods needed to package these meals.
