Weekly Update -- November 18, 2018
Another awesome Altrusa Temple----TASTE OF THE HOLIDAYS! This group does it again and one more time I want to thank Kelli Alsup for her leadership and all the chairs & co-chairs that worked for so many months to bring this all together. It does take the whole club, and on November 27th at our program meeting we will continue the celebration.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving----we are headed into the holiday season, and we are all so blessed. I am especially thankful for each of you and what Altrusa means to me. It is a joy to serve with each of you, and as I look back over the last few months, it is amazing all the projects that have touched our community. Looking forward to so much more!

Thanks to each of you for  'Serving Through the Seasons',

Make A Difference Day
Here is a recap of our MADD project---so excited to see what the seasons will do with each room!

Our Lady of the Angels is an emergency shelter for pregnant mothers and their children. Which provides housing, transportation, food, counseling and support to empower and educate them for a better future. It is the only one of its kind in the area.
The facility is home to these families while they get back on their feet and Marlene Poehlman, a fellow Altrusan, wants them to leave inspired and uplifted.
There are 5 bedrooms in the facility, and one was recently redecorated by another volunteer group. Now, we are going to do the other 4!!!
Each season will take a room and do everything necessary to transform it.
This will be an all hands on deck kind of project, so everyone should make plans to pitch in! Together, we can make a difference!

What:
No painting
No new furniture
No re-arranging the rooms (fire codes)
New bedding
New pillows
New curtains
New decorations for walls and tops of dressers
A sign/frame/placard/etc that says Altrusa did the room, possibly with an encouraging message and our names to make it more personal.
When:     October 27th 9 – 1 is the workday
Why I Became an Altrusan
This week Barb Sorge has answered---Why I Became an Altrusan  & Why do I Remain in Altrusa ---Barb has been a member for almost 19 years!

I joined Altrusa after doing a presentation to the club and invited by then president Karen Walker Stalcup in 2000.  I jumped in with both feet and hands working on Caring Ball decorations even before officially at Joni Lange’s reinventing topiaries.  I grew with this group with the goal of being the best “worker bee” feeding this great buzzing hive of energy to my best.  I fed off incredible women, volunteering at the free clinic and then taking that to co-chair Caring Ball in 2008 with Sharon Tomlinson.  I always had my hand up for a wide range of events, projects and committees that allowed me to make a difference.  The support of fellow Altrusans cannot be said enough.  I treasure each one and every memory.  I needed this opportunity to give to others in my life and Altrusa is the best in whatever tome and talents one has.  All is appreciated no matter how small or big.
