I hope you had a great week! We had so many Altrusa activities going on there was an opportunity for you to be involved in many ways...from Make A Difference Day building bookshelves to stringing Blessing Bags...Margarita Monday with ASTRA...Taste of The Holidays events and more.
For our Make A Difference Day we already have 200 strung bags, 200 baby socks, 200 snuggly toys, 22 baby blankies, 66 knit baby caps, 3 pair of knit booties, 239 books, (17 for women, 66 for school age, and 156 for preschool), 1 classroom rug, 1 almost bookcase and 1 more to come, 2 donated clothing racks, and approximately 3 closets of donated clothes. We are truly going to make a difference in the lives of some folks in our community.
The Taste of The Holidays is right around the corner and Shirley Ewing and her team are busy rounding up spare hands to assist with all of the chores that make for an awesome fundraiser. The closer it gets to November 17th, the more excited we get. It is truly amazing to see what a team of Altrusans can deliver on that day.
If your Saturday schedule is looking a bit boring, please consider the final Make A Difference Day workday at Barb's Barn on Saturday, October 8th from 8:30 to 12:30. Bookshelves are almost complete. If you can swing a paint roller...come on out. We can do this!
We are increasing our MADD request this week to include diapers, wipes , and other baby items to stock the shelves at Hope Pregnancy Center. We are still collecting gently used (or new) preschool books, as well as books for women at our Business meeting Tuesday, to be donated for this awesome room at Feed My Sheep.
Thank you for all you do for our community and THANK YOU for allowing me to serve you!
This is one of our most favorite annual projects. Project Appletree will be serving about 1,400 children from the Belton ISD and Academy ISD. These children will receive a full set of clothes, school supplies, dental kit, and a hygiene kit before the first day of school. Altrusa Intl of Temple, Tx, Inc. purchases and packs the hygiene kit, which consists of a full size bottle of shampoo, wash cloth, soap, and information regarding the Belton Library.
The packing of the hygiene kits will take place at First Baptist Church, Belton, on Monday, August 8 starting at 5:30. Please join us for a fun filled evening of chatting and packing...then, of course, eating. Bring a dish to share and we will nourish our bodies after we pack the 1,400 kits (which we can accomplish in less than two hours time).
Altrusans will also have an opportunity to "adopt" 20 children. At Tuesday's meeting I will have 40 apples to distribute (20 red apples for a set of clothes, including shoes, and 20 yellow apples for school supplies, purchase at Perry Office Supplies). If you are interested in adopting one of these children, just sign up! Or if you wish to make a monetary donation, someone else can do the shopping for you.
If you plan to go to Conference in April 2017, don't forget to make your hotel reservation. The reservations at the host hotel could go quickly! Conference is a ton of fun and you will enjoy spending time with Altrusans from Temple and the other clubs in Disctrict Nine. Email me if you have any questions dorothyg@hot.rr.com.
Debbie Fendrick will be coordinating housing and travel for our District Nine Conference in Waco in 2017. .
