Altrusa Newsletter, Issue No. 33, January 27, 2017
What an eye-opening message from Becky Ann Garth at our Tuesday Program meeting. She informed us about all of the intricacies behind sex trafficking right in our own back yard, how we can keep our own children safe, and also, what to do if we observe what we believe to be trafficking while we are out and about in our community each day. There was still much to be learned when our program time expired so possibly we can get her on next year's program schedule. THANK YOU Becky Ann for the work you do to inform folks about the many ways children and adults become victims of trafficking crimes.
Our Conference Packet for the District Nine Conference in Waco can be accessed by clicking n the link. There is a ton of information including the schedule of events. Please complete the registration form and send it in if you are planning on attending. This conference is being sponsored by Temple Altrusa so you know it is going to be an exciting and fun event. There are still rooms available so make your reservation if you are planning on staying in Waco a night or two.
As of a few days ago, there were only 8 rooms left at the Hilton in Waco so if you're planning on attending conference and staying in Waco, NOW is the time to make your reservations! Please email or text Debbie Fendrick to let her know which nights you're staying and your roommate's name. If you need a roommate, tell Debbie. And because we are hosting conference, and it's in close proximity, there may be some that plan to drive back and forth and not stay overnight in Waco. Would those folks also let Debbie know your plans so we can include you in events and work schedules? REGISTER online.....go ahead and get that done!
Planning for Camp Dreamcatcher has begun. Debbie Fendrick will send an email within the next month to ask for volunteers for Registration Day. The event date is Sunday, June 25th. Please mark your calendar for this important opportunity to serve.
If you would like to contribute to Club 21 (Altrusa Foundation), Kathy Folley is still collecting. Club 21 is an awesome way for us to donate just $21 each year to the Altrusa Foundation. The money we donate goes into a fund that is distributed back to Altrusa Clubs all over the World for worthy projects. Altrusa International of Temple, TX. Inc. has been a recipient of one of those grants with Camp Dreamcatcher a couple of years ago. Your dollars are tax deductible if you choose and you can be well assured that your hard-earned money is going to a good cause. AND besides all of that, you get a really cool Club 21 pin to wear.
Please consider a contribution. It is not mandatory that you contribute each year, but once you see all of the worthy grants the foundation funds, you will more than likely want to continue. THANK YOU for your consideration in support of this worthy foundation. Kathy will have forms at our meetings in October, but I have attached the link to the form if you want to print it and bring it to a meeting with your $21.
The 2016 Fall Leadership Event(FLE) is right around the corner (Saturday, November 5th). Registration is still open and you can get with Barbara Pearcy for housing and carpooling details. Click this link to open the packet of information.
If you plan to go to Conference in April 2017, don't forget to make your hotel reservation. The reservations at the host hotel could go quickly!
